Sue Harpole

Senior Fellow, Development and Engagement ALSAC

Sue Harpole serves as Senior Fellow – Development and Engagement for ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Working with Executive and Development leadership, she is responsible for leading the development of our High Wealth fundraising strategy and personally managing some of our most complex High Wealth relationships. Sue also is the leader of ALSAC’s $1 billion St. Jude Capital Campaign and manages the Professional Advisory Board and ALSAC Leadership Board. Her current role includes preparing and empowering our next generation of leaders through mentoring, coaching and training.

Since joining ALSAC in 2007, Sue has served in various senior leadership roles, including Chief Development Officer and Senior Vice President of Gift Planning. Throughout her career, Sue has led the identification, cultivation and stewardship of transformative gifts from generous donors and corporate partners, including helping the Chief Executive Officer and team secure the largest single gift in ALSAC’s 60-year history in 2018.

Prior to joining ALSAC in 2007, Sue served in a variety of leadership positions in higher education and academic medical centers including the University of Oregon, Mercer University School of Medicine, The University of Tennessee Health Science Center and Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation.

A native of Mississippi, Sue has a Bachelor of Science in English Education and a Master of Education in Counseling and Student Personnel from Mississippi State University, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She is a graduate of the Memphis Leadership Academy, a recipient of the 2016 <em>Memphis Business Journal</em> Super Women in Business Award and was selected by <em>Memphis Woman’s Magazine’s</em> “50 Women Who Make a Difference.” She is a member of Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and is involved in a number of community organizations. Sue is married to Nelson Strother and has one daughter (Virginia).
